Why ventilation balance matters
In a typical vented attic, outside air enters through intake vents near the eaves and exits through vents higher on the roof. A balanced arrangement can help move heat and moisture out of the attic while supporting the roof system. Adding exhaust without adequate intake does not automatically solve a ventilation concern. Blocked soffit openings, insulation covering intake paths, disconnected exhaust ducts, and mixed vent types can all affect airflow.
Ridge vent installation and repair
Ridge vents are installed along suitable roof peaks to provide high-level exhaust. Installation requires the correct opening, compatible vent product, secure fastening, weather protection, and finished ridge-cap shingles. Existing ridge vents may need evaluation when caps are loose, the vent has been damaged, the opening is incorrect, or signs of leakage appear near the ridge. Not every roof shape has enough usable ridge length for the same solution.
Soffit vent installation and repair
Soffit vents provide intake air beneath the roof edge. They can become blocked by insulation, paint, debris, or changes made during earlier work. Damaged soffit panels or inadequate vent area may also limit intake. Intake and exhaust should be considered together, and the selected approach must fit the attic and roof design.
